I'm Siobhán, a staff writer at The Washington Post. I returned in April 2018 from freelancing across Africa, with stints based in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana. I have also reported from a number of other countries on the continent, including Congo, South Sudan, Togo and Senegal.
I previously worked as a staff writer at Foreign Policy magazine. My work has also appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Atlantic, Foreign Affairs, Huck and other outlets.
A number of my projects have been funded by generous grants from the International Reporting Project and from the International Women's Media Foundation. I speak fluent French but my name is Irish and it's pronounced Sha-VON.
